Class 10 CBSE Physics Curriculum

Class 10 CBSE Physics curriculum comprises of TWO Units and FIVE Chapters which include topics like spherical mirrors and images, the structure of the human eye, defects in the human eye and their correction, circuit diagrams, magnetic fields and their effects, conventional sources of energy and non-conventional sources of energy. From Class 10, the three streams of Science subject that are Physics, Chemistry and Biology appear to merge out as you will begin learning the core concepts. CBSE recommends that you should study the Class 10 Physics syllabus thoroughly and understand the various concepts that you will be asked in the board exams. CBSE prescribes NCERT Science textbook for Class 10 Physics along with NCERT Exemplar textbook and NCERT Lab Manual. Also, you must have Class 10 Physics CBSE notes that will help you revise all the concepts of the NCERT textbooks easily. The NCERT book for Class 10 Science includes FIVE Physics chapters namely: 

 

  • Chapter 10: Light - Reflection and Refraction

Chapter 10: Light - Reflection and Refraction includes topics like the reflection of light by curved surfaces, the image formed by spherical mirrors, mirror formula, laws of refraction, refractive index, magnification, spherical lenses, the image formed by spherical lenses. 

 

Chapter 11: The Human Eye and The Colorful World includes topics like the working of the human eye, defects in the vision of the human eye and how can they be corrected, refraction and dispersion of light by a prism, atmospheric refraction and the phenomenon of the twinkling of stars, Tyndal effect, early sunrise and sunset. 

 

Chapter 12: Electricity includes topics like electric current, electric circuits, potential difference, electric potential, Ohm’s Law, factors on which the resistance of an electric circuit depends, the resistance of a system of resistors and resistance in series and parallel. You will also be learning about the heating effect of the eclectic current, practical applications of the heating effect of the electric current and electric power. 

 

Chapter 13: Magnetic Effects of Electric Current is an important chapter and includes topics like magnetic fields, field lines, magnetic field due to a current-carrying conductor, right-hand thumb rule, magnetic field due to a current through a circular loop, magnetic field due to a current in a solenoid, the force on a current-carrying conductor in a magnetic field. You will also be introduced to the concepts of electromagnetic induction, eclectic motor, electric generator, and domestic electric circuits. 

 

Chapter 14: Sources of Energy includes topics like the definition of a good source of energy, conventional sources of energy such as fossil fuels, thermal power plants, hydropower plants, biomass and wind energy. It then teaches you about the non-conventional sources of energy such as solar energy, tidal energy, wave energy, ocean thermal energy, geothermal energy, and nuclear energy.
