About NCERT Solutions for Class 10 Maths Chapter 6 Ex 6.2

Before you start solving Ex 6.2 of NCERT Class 10 Maths Chapter 6, you must take note of the following points:

The similarity of Triangles: Two triangles are called similar if:

  1. their corresponding angles are equal
  2. their corresponding sides are in the same ratio (or proportion).

Equiangular Triangles: If corresponding angles of two triangles are equal, then they are known as equiangular triangles. The ratio of any two corresponding sides in two equiangular triangles is always the same.

Basic Proportionality Theorem (Thales Theorem): If a line is drawn parallel to one side of a triangle to intersect the other two sides in distinct points, the other two sides are divided in the same ratio.

The converse of Basic Proportionality Theorem: If a line divides any two sides of a triangle in the same ratio, then the line is parallel to the third side.

Exercise 6.2 includes 10 questions that are based on the similarity of triangles, the basic proportionality theorem, and the converse of the basic proportionality theorem. Let us see what is included in this exercise:

Ex 6.2 Q1: In this question, you are given two triangles with DE || BC. You need to find out the values of EC and AD respectively. This question can be solved easily using the Thales Theorem. Check our NCERT Solutions for Class 10 Maths Chapter 6 Ex 6.2 and see how to solve this question step by step.

Ex 6.2 Q2: In this question, you are given a triangle PQR with different measurements of its sides. It is also given that there are two points E and F on the sides PQ and QR respectively. You have to state whether EF || QR is given the different measurements of PE, EQ, PF, and FR.

Ex 6.2 Q3: In this question, you are given a figure in which LM || CB and LN || CD. You have to prove that AM/AB = AN/AD. This is an interesting question and tests your knowledge about the basic proportionality theorem.

Ex 6.2 Q4: This question is similar to question 3 of the exercise. Here, you are given a figure with DE || AC and DF || AE. You have to prove that BF/FE = BE/EC.

Ex 6.2 Q5: In this question, you are given a figure with DE || OQ and DF || OR and you have to show that EF || QR. This question is based on the application of the Thales Theorem. We have provided a comprehensive solution for this question in our NCERT Solutions for Class 10 Maths Chapter 6 Ex 6.2.

Ex 6.2 Q6: This question is similar to question 5 which means you have to apply the Thales Theorem in this question. Here you are given a figure with AB || PQ and AC || PR and you have to show that BC || QR.

Ex 6.2 Q7: In this question, you have to use the Thales Theorem to prove that a line drawn through the midpoint of one side of a triangle parallel to another side bisects the third side. You must have studied this theorem in Class 9. Our Maths experts have provided an easy to understand solution for this question in our NCERT Solutions for Class 10 Maths.

Ex 6.2 Q8: This question is similar to question 7. In this question, you have to prove that the line joining the mid-points of any two sides of a triangle is parallel to the third side. This theorem is also taught in Class 9 Maths. See how to solve this question step by step using our NCERT Class 10 Maths Solutions.

Ex 6.2 Q9: In this question, you are given that ABCD is a trapezium with AB || DC and its diagonals intersect each other at the point O. You have to show that AO/BO = CO/DO.

Ex 6.2 Q10: This question is the exact opposite to question 9. Here you are given that the diagonals of a quadrilateral ABCD intersect each other at the point O such that AO/BO = CO/DO. You have to show that ABCD is a trapezium. See how to solve this question in a stepwise manner in our NCERT Class 10 Maths Solutions for Chapter 6 Ex 6.2.
