CBSE Class 12 English Syllabus 

CBSE has recommended two NCERT Books for Class 12 English, Flamingo English Reader and Vistas Supplementary Reader. Just like Class 11, CBSE Class 12 examination will have three main sections - Reading Comprehension, Writing Skills, and Literature Textbooks. The first section of Reading Comprehension comprises 20 marks while the rest two sections are of 30 marks each. The remaining 20 marks are assigned for internal assessment. Here is a brief description of the three sections: 

 

Section A Reading Comprehension: It includes two unseen passages. One will be of 800-900 words and includes 5 multiple choice questions and 7 objective-type questions. The second passage would be shorter, one of just 400-500 words, and will assess your note-making and abstraction skills. 

 

Section B Writing Skills & Grammar: It includes different writing tasks such as notice writing, formal and informal invitations, letter writing (business letters, letter to the editor, etc), descriptions, speech, and debate writing. 

 

Section C Literature: It includes questions from Vistas and Flamingo. There will be short answer questions, long answer questions, and objective type questions. You will have to provide evaluations, analytical responses, creative responses, and your own opinions as well in these answers.
