About NCERT Class 10 Maths Chapter 1 Real Numbers Ex 1.2

The main topics included in Chapter 1 Real Numbers of Class 10 Maths Chapter 1 are Euclid’s Division Lemma, Rational and Irrational Numbers, and the Fundamental Theorem of Arithmetic. Exercise 1.2 focuses on the concept of the Fundamental Theorem of Arithmetic. According to this theorem:

Every composite number can be expressed (factorised) as a product of primes, and this factorisation is unique, apart from the order in which the prime factors occur.

You must take note of the following points while solving this exercise:

  • HCF of given numbers is the highest common factor among all which is also known as GCD i.e. greatest common divisor.
  • LCM of given numbers is their least common multiple.
  • If we have two positive integers  ‘m’ and ‘n’ then the property of their  HCF and LCM will be:
    HCF (m, n) × LCM (m, n) = m × n.

Types of exercise questions in Class 10 Maths Rational Numbers Ex 1.2:

Ex 1.2 Q1: In this question, you have to express the given numbers as a product of prime factors. It is a short answer type question.

Ex 1.2 Q2: In this question, you are given three pairs of integers. You have to find their LCM and HCF using the prime factorisation method.

Ex 1.2 Q3: In this question, you are given a group of three integers each and you have to find their LCM and HCF using the prime factorisation method. You can easily solve this question if you get to question 2 right. In case you have any confusion, just refer to our NCERT Class 10 Maths Solutions.

Ex 1.2 Q4: In this question, you are given the HCF of two numbers 306 and 657. You have to find their LCM. Do you know that you can solve this question in just a few steps? Try it yourself and if you are unable to get the right answer, check our NCERT Solutions.

Ex 1.2 Q5: In this question, you have to Check whether 6n can end with the digit 0 for any natural number n. This is a different type of question introduced in this exercise. Do not get confused with the language of the question. Just check our NCERT Solutions and learn how to solve it quickly.

Ex 1.2 Q6: In this question, you have to explain why 7 × 11 × 13 + 13 and 7 × 6 × 5 × 4 × 3 × 2 × 1 + 5 are composite numbers. Can you solve this question by applying the fundamental theorem of arithmetic?

Ex 1.2 Q7: This is the last question of this exercise. It is a word problem type question so make sure to read it properly. In this question, you are given that there is a circular path around a sports field. Sonia takes 18 minutes to drive one round of the field, while Ravi takes 12 minutes for the same. Suppose they both start at the same point and at the same time and go in the same direction. Then you have to find after how many minutes will they meet again at the starting point.
