As per the latest NTSE notification, 2,000 scholarships are awarded to students under the National Talent Search Scheme (NTSS) where selected students receive scholarships up to second-degree level if they pursue professional courses or PhD-degree level otherwise, out of which:
46.5% of scholarships are awarded to general category candidates,
15% of scholarships are awarded to scheduled caste (SC) candidates,
7.5% of scholarships are awarded to scheduled tribe (ST) candidates,
27% of scholarships are awarded to other backward classes (OBC) candidates, and
4% of scholarships are awarded to students with benchmark disabilities (PH).
NTSE exam is conducted by the NCERT at two levels:
Stage 1 exam is a state-level examination which is conducted to screen candidates for the Stage 2 exam.
Stage 2 exam is a national-level examination.
Those who satisfy the eligibility criteria for the NTSE exam need to keep an eye on the State advertisements published in the newspapers or school circulars related to the exam. Students may also contact the Liaison Officers of the State/UT agencies for additional information.
Students need to submit the application form duly signed by the Principal of their school and submit it to the State Liaison Officer before the last date mentioned in the State/UT circular or advertisement.
The NTSE exam fee, application fee, and medium of the exam are decided by the respective State or Union Territory.
The quota allotted to States/UTs for the number of their students who can receive scholarships is revised every three years. The last quota allotment was as follows:

Indian candidates selected through the NTSE Stage 1 examination will be informed by the NCERT about the roll number, date, time and venue of the national-level examination through its official website.
Indian nationals studying in Class X abroad can apply for the NTSE national-level exam through the Head of their Institution with an attested copy of their Class IX mark sheet - latest by December 31 of the concerned year - to the Head, Department of Educational Survey Division, NCERT, New Delhi-110016.
The NCERT will allot roll numbers and inform them about their exam venue, date, time, and relevant instructions.
All candidates can download the E-Admit cards for the NTSE National Level Examination directly from the official website 21 days before the exam. They have to paste an attested passport-size photograph at the appropriate place and submit it to the Centre Superintendent on the day of the exam.
Applying for the NTSE exam is a one-step process. Students only need to apply for the Stage 1 exam. There's no need to apply for the Stage 2 exam.
NTSE 2022 application form is made available online by States or UTs. One can also collect it from the liaison officer.
One has to pay the NTSE 2022 application fee (as specified by the state) while submitting the form online or offline.
While filling up the NTSE application form, students need to mention details like their name, mother's name, father's name, postal address, etc. They also have to submit a recent passport-size coloured photograph and caste certificate (if applicable) attested by the Principal of his or her school.
Make sure to fill in any details in the upper case only.
The handwriting should be clear and legible. Do not make corrections or scribble on the form.
