Class 10 CBSE English Curriculum

Class 10 CBSE English curriculum states that there will be three main sections in the annual examination - reading, writing & grammar, and literature. The reading section comprises 20 marks, writing and grammar section comprises 30 marks and literature and supplementary textbooks comprise 30 marks. The theoretical examination is of 80 marks while 20 marks are allotted for internal assessment. The total marks of the annual examination are 100. Section A: Reading - This section includes two unseen passages. The first passage will be of 300-350 words and will include objective type questions. The second passage will be of 350-400 words and will include short answer type questions and objective type questions. 

 

Section B: Writing - This section includes formal letter writing and analytical paragraph writing. For paragraph writing, you will be given a map, chart, report, line graph or any other situation. You will be given an internal choice between these two writing tasks and both of them will be of 150-200 words. This section also comprises grammar questions such as dialogue writing, report writing, editing, gap-filling or cloze passage.

 

Section C: Literature textbook and Supplementary Reading textbook - This section will include questions based on the literature textbook and the supplementary reader. This will include short answer type questions of 30-40 words and long answer questions of 100-150 words each.
