Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) was a national fellowship programme designed to identify and encourage students interested in pursuing basic sciences. The KVPY Aptitude Test has not been conducted from 2022 onwards. • KVPY SB was conducted for first-year students of B.Sc., B.S., Integrated 5-year M.Sc., or Integrated 5-year M.S. programmes.

KVPY SA exam pattern

The KVPY SA examination was historically conducted as a single paper containing objective-type multiple-choice questions (MCQs). The duration of the paper was 3 hours.

The historical KVPY examination included negative marking. Students using old KVPY papers in 2026 should refer to the instructions and marking scheme applicable to the particular year of the paper they are solving.

KVPY SB exam pattern or KVPY SX exam pattern

Like the SA examination, the historical KVPY SB and SX examinations were conducted using objective-type multiple-choice questions (MCQs), with a duration of 3 hours.

The SB and SX examinations historically allowed students to choose questions from the available subjects according to the examination instructions applicable to that year.

Negative marking was also applicable in the historical SB and SX examinations. Since KVPY is not being conducted as an active aptitude test in 2026, students should use the original year-specific instructions when practicing previous papers.

KVPY Syllabus and Preparation Topics

Historically, KVPY did not prescribe a separate detailed syllabus in the same way as many entrance examinations. The aptitude test focused on conceptual understanding, analytical ability, and application of concepts rather than only factual knowledge.
