About NCERT Class 8 Maths Algebraic Expressions and Identities Ex 9.3

Before you start solving this exercise, you must understand the important concepts of the chapter such as basic definitions of expressions, terms, variables and coefficients. You must also know what are the different types of polynomial expressions such as monomials, binomials, trinomials, along with like terms, unlike terms, and addition, subtraction and multiplication of algebraic expressions.

Steps involved in multiplying a monomial by a binomial:

To multiply a binomial with a monomial, you have to multiply each term of the binomial with the monomial.

Example:

  • Multiplication of 2 and (a+b) will be 2a + 2b
  • Multiplication of 3x and (2x+3y) will be 6x2 + 9xy

Steps involved in multiplying a trinomial by a monomial:

To multiply a trinomial by a monomial, you have to multiply each term of the trinomial with the monomial.

Example:

  • Multiplication of 3 with (x+y+z) will be 3x + 3y + 3z
  • Multiplication of 4x2 with (2x+3y+z) will be 8x3 + 12xy + 4xz
