As you are about to practise the NCERT Exercise 5.2, you must understand the basics of Arithmetic Progressions or AP. 

Arithmetic Progression: An arithmetic progression or AP is a list of numbers in which each term is obtained by adding a fixed number to the preceding term except the first term.

It is given by: a1 , a2 , a3 , . . ., an or a, a + d, a + 2d, a + 3d, . .

Common Difference: The fixed number that is added to each term of a list of numbers except the first term to form an AP is called the common difference of the AP. It can be positive, negative or zero. 

It is given by: a2 – a1 = a3 – a2 = . . . = an – an – 1 = d, where d is the common difference. 

The nth term of an AP: The nth term an of the AP with first term a and common difference d is given by an = a + (n – 1) d. 

Exercise 5.2 of NCERT Class 10 Maths Chapter 5 is based on finding the nth term of an arithmetic progression. The exercise includes 20 questions of various types that will help you practise this concept in-depth. Let us see what kind of questions are included in this exercise: 

Ex 5.2 Q1-Q3: The first-three questions of this exercise are very short-answer type questions or MCQs. In the first question, you have to fill in the blanks in the given table. In question two, you have to choose the correct option. In the third question, you have to complete the series.
