Class 10 Board Exams Cancelled, Class 12 Board Exams Postponed! What next?

We all understand how difficult the board exams situation is for students on normal days. The pandemic situation has now increased their troubles. The whole nation was divided into two parts where one part was advocating that since students have been preparing for the exams for more than a year, board exams should take place. While the other group of people were resisting the board exams because they were concerned with the health of the students.

Cancellation of Class 10 Board Exams: Finally, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) took the decision. The board exams for Class 10 that were supposed to be held from 4th May to 7th June 2021 are cancelled. The students will be promoted directly to Class 11 based on their internal assessments.

Postponement of Class 12 Board Exams: The board exams for Class 12 that were supposed to be held from 4th May to 14th June 2021 are postponed till 30th May 2021. The board will share the further schedule of the CBSE Class 12 board examination on 1st June 2021.

Why did CBSE take this decision?

People from the whole nation were urging the CBSE to cancel the board exams. This included some prominent leaders like the Chief Minister of Delhi, Mr Arvind Kejriwal and his deputy Mr Manish Sisodia. The Chief Minister of Punjab, Capt. Amarinder Singh has also written to the central government to postpone the board examination until the situation of the pandemic is under control.

Not only state leaders, but many students were campaigning to cancel board exams. Many students urged to cancel the exams while many urged to postpone them. More than two lakh students signed a petition demanding the cancellation of board exams.

Rising cases of Coronavirus: The pandemic has hit the nation again. Despite the precautions being taken by the people in various cities and towns like wearing masks, washing hands regularly, using sanitisers, maintaining social distancing and vaccination, the Covid-19 cases are spiking all over the nation. Many states such as Rajasthan and Maharashtra had already postponed their board exams due to the rising cases of coronavirus. Therefore, the Central Board of Secondary Education took this decision of cancellation and postponement of board exams.

The dilemma of students!

Since there are no board exams for Class 10 students, many parents and students are now worried about Class 11. Earlier, students used to choose their career based on their board exams. Now, some of the main concerns of parents and students are:

  • Which subjects to choose in Class 11?
  • How to make the right career choice for a bright future?
  • When to start JEE/NEET preparations?

Class 12 students still have the sword of Damocles hanging over their head. They have to juggle between preparing for entrance tests and board exam preparation. Many students are worried about whether they will be able to get admissions to college this year or not.
