When it comes to JEE Exam results, all eyes tend to focus on Andhra Students’ results. After resounding success in the JEE Advanced exam securing maximum seats in the IITs in the country, Andhra students showcased their brilliance in the JEE Main exam, securing four out of the top 10 ranks in the country.
Ranks released on July 8th, after giving 40 per cent weightage to Intermediate marks, indicated that nearly 35 per cent of seats in the NITs would be bagged by Telugu students alone.
Sreelekha secured the second rank in the open category in the B.Tech stream followed by Afzal Shama (Rank 5), S. Sindhuja (Rank 7) and M. Nikhil Harsha (Rank 9) ranks.
Amazingly, none of the JEE Advanced rankers could figure in the top 10 and most of the successful candidates of JEE Advanced didn’t fare well in the first phase of the exam that made them eligible for JEE Advanced examination. The reason is the calculation of 40 per cent of Intermediate marks to arrive at the JEE Main rank.
The huge disparity in ranks once again brought to fore the worth of the normalisation process used in calculating ranks using JEE Main scores and Intermediate marks. In spite of scoring high marks in Intermediate, Andhra students lose out in comparison to their peers in other States.
