5 Things to Do in the Last 30 Days Before JEE Advanced 2022

JEE Advanced 2022 will be held on August 28, 2022. The examination will be a Computer Based Test (CBT). If you are appearing for the exam, here are the five things that you must do in the last 30 days before the JEE Advanced:

  1. Don't Skip Mock Tests

Students think that a 3-hour test would eat more of their time than they can afford. The truth is taking a test and reviewing it to learn about what mistakes you've made is the best strategy to boost your scores in the actual exam. So, do not underestimate the power of taking a lot of mock tests.

The best way to analyze your performance after taking a test is to sit with a pen and paper and go through the entire test thoroughly. Check your answers against the given solutions.

Make sure to time yourself so you can get an idea about the time you took to answer each question. If you took too much time to solve a question, try to find tips and tricks you can use to increase your speed and accuracy.

Use a separate notebook to maintain a log of all the topics you're having trouble with. Make sure to revise these topics daily until you're confident about them.

AskIITians AITS (All India Test Series) for IIT JEE or JEE Advanced aspirants provide you with mock tests designed by experts as well as a detailed analysis report with recommendations for further improvement.

  1. Revise. Don't Learn Anything New.

The last month before the JEE Advanced is not the time to start learning new topics or concepts. It is the time to revise whatever you have already learned.

Make sure you have completed your entire syllabus at least once before you start revising.

Once you're done with that, create a list of all the topics and concepts you're weak at.

Now, go through your class notes and revise these topics thoroughly. Make sure you understand everything before moving on to the next topic.

You can start with important topics for JEE Advanced 2022 exam (that carry a higher weightage in the exam) and then move on to the others. For example, in Physics, you can start by revising:

  • Refraction
  • Electrostatics
  • Laws of Thermodynamics
  • Electric Current

In Chemistry, you should first revise:

  • p-Block Elements
  • Chemical Bonding
  • Carboxylic Acids and its Derivatives
  • d-Block and f-Block Elements
  • Alkanes, Alkenes, and Alkynes

In Mathematics, practice questions from the following chapters first:

  • Vector
  • Definite Integration
  • Application of Derivatives
  • Limits, Continuity, and Differentiability
  • Probability
  • Conic Sections

  1. Solve Previous Years' JEE Advanced Question Papers.

It's the best way to practice and recall what you have learned.

Solving previous years' papers will also give you an idea about the type of questions asked in the exam. You will get to know the difficulty level of the questions and the kind of questions being asked on each topic.

Make sure you solve these papers under timed conditions so that you can get an idea about the time you should spend on each question.

Also, try to solve the most difficult and challenging questions, and seek help if you can't understand them.

  1. Attempt Two JEE Advanced Question Papers Every Day.

Take two full-length tests every alternative day - from 9 am to 12 noon, and 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm to train your body and mind for the examination day.

This will help you develop the stamina to sit for long hours and solve challenging questions. If you find that you are getting tired too easily and find it difficult to focus, on the first paper or the second paper, or both, it is time to check your:

  • Sleep Cycle: Make sure you are sleeping for at least 7-8 hours every day, and at hours that keep you fresh and alert for both the JEE Advanced papers. Ideally, you should start sleeping at 10 pm and wake up at 6 am, so that you have sufficient time to revise whatever you studied during the day.
  • Diet: Eating healthy and nutritious food is as important as sleeping and studying. Include plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains in your diet. Avoid processed foods and sugary drinks. Eat light meals so that you don't feel drowsy while studying or taking the test.
  • Exercise Routine: Exercise for at least 30 minutes every day. This will help you improve your concentration and focus, and keep your mind and body active. If you can't find time to exercise, you should take a 10-minute walk after every 50 minutes of a rigorous study session. If you keep sitting for too long, your body will become stiff and you will find it difficult to focus.
  • Caffeine Intake:  If you must drink coffee or tea to keep yourself awake, do so in moderation. Too much caffeine can make you anxious and jittery, and affect your sleep cycle. You should not have more than 200 mg of caffeine per day, which is equivalent to 2 cups of coffee.

You should also take short breaks in between to rejuvenate your mind and body. Take a walk, listen to music or do something that relaxes you. But make sure you get back to solving papers within the next 20 minutes. This will help you stay focused and not lose momentum.

  1. Make a Strategy to Follow If You Get Stuck

Having a plan B always helps. You should have a strategy in place for the unthinkable - what if you get stuck on a question? Do not panic, and follow these steps:

  • Do not waste too much time on a single question. If you cannot solve a question within 3 minutes, leave it and move on to the next one. You can always come back to it later.
  • Do not try to copy the solution from your neighbor's paper. Each candidate gets a different set of papers, so you will only end up wasting time. Trying to copy answers will only lead to more confusion, and affect your performance in other questions as well.
  • Think about the various methods you know to solve a particular type of question, and try one of them. If that doesn't work, move on to the next method. Mark the questions you are not able to solve so that you can come back to them later - if you have time. If you are solving sample papers, make sure you ask your teacher or tutor for help with the questions you couldn't solve.
  • There's negative marking in JEE Advanced 2022 exam - in both Paper 1 and Paper 2, except for numerical value questions. So you can't afford to guess the answers. If you get stuck on a question, eliminate the options that you are sure are wrong, and then take a guess. If you have completely no clue about the answer, it is better to leave that question and move on.
  • Do not leave the numerical value questions unanswered though. Even if you have to guess the answer, attempt it because there is no negative marking for these questions.
