"IITian Raghuram Ranjan Becomes the Youngest RBI Governor at 50"

IITians are making their presence felt globally. One of the latest to join the bandwagon is Raghuram Rajan, who will be appointed as the 23rd governor of the Reserve Bank of India. He will be the youngest RBI governor in the history of RBI.

An IIT graduate from 1985 batch first hogged the limelight after accurately forecasting the 2008 global crisis.

Raghuram Rajan graduated in B.Tech from IIT Delhi in 1985, did PGDM from IIM Ahemdabad in 1987, and, also completed PhD in Management from MIT in the year 1991. The Fischer Black prize winner is also recognized as the youngest economic counselor at the IMF.

He predicted a lurking global crisis in the financial sector in his paper titled—“Has Financial Development Made the World Riskier?”

He received widespread popularity for his accurate prediction of global crisis and was appointed as economic advisor by the prime minister—Manmohan Singh. He also served as the chief economic advisor of the finance ministry.

From sky-rocketing interest rates, falling of rupees, to high inflation, Raghuram Ranjan has a string of tasks ahead of him. A lot from this distinguished man is expected.
