Dear Karthik,

 

cos2x = 1- 2sin2x

 

so, (sin x)^2 + 4 cos 2x = 4 - 7sin2x

Max. value = 4       put sinx  = 0

Min. value  =  4 - 7  = -3    at sinx = -1 or 1
