Dear student,
omplete proteins contain all nine essential amino acids ('essential' meaning the human body cannot produce them and therefore you need to get them through your diet).
Examples of foods that are 'complete protein' sources: animal foods such as meat, fish, poultry, eggs, milk, and milk products such as yogurt and cheese. Soybeans are the only plant protein considered to be a complete protein.1
Incomplete proteins lack one or more of the nine essential amino acids.
Examples of foods that provide incomplete proteins: beans, peas, nuts, seeds, and grain. A small amount of incomplete protein is also found in vegetables.1
The nine essential amino acids are: isoleucine, leucine, lysine, threonine, tryptophan, methionine, histidine, valine and phenylalanine.
