Since |sinx|
$sin^{8}x\leqslant sin^{2}x$
Same we can write for cos
$cos^{14}x\leqslant cos^{2}x$

if we add both equations we get
$cos^{14}x + sin^{8}x\leqslant cos^{2}x+sin^{2}x$
$\Rightarrow cos^{14}x + sin^{8}x\leqslant 1$

Also since both powers are even both terms are positive
