There are N molecules in a gas, The average velocity as given by maxwell will be:
Vav = sqrt (8RT/pie*M)
Most probable velociy is the velocity that largest number of molecules posses.
u = sqrt(3RT/M)
The average number of molecules moving in definite direction can be anything , because N is not fixed.
