In case of any compound if dipole moment is equal to zero then compound is nonpolar and if there is some dipole moment i.e net dipole moment not equal to zero then that compound is polar. dipole moment =charge(e) x distance(d)
in other ways we can say that if any compound has some charge then polar&if compound having no charge then nonpolar.
