Consider the following reaction and mark the in- correct statement CH3–C(OCH3)2–CH2–CH=O (1) In Wolff-Kishner reduction, the product formed is CH3–C(OCH3)2–CH2CH3 (2) With CH3MgBr followed by H3O+ treatment, the product formed is CH3COCH2CH(OH)CH3 (3) The reactant gives Tollen’s Test positive (4) In Clemmenson reduction, the product formed is CH3–C(OCH3)2–CH2CH3

Answer is 4th option because in presence of acid acetal group will leave off so 4th is incorrect and 2nd one is correct because in presence of acid acetals have leave off so carbonyl is formed

Dear Samarvir,

2 and 4 are the incorrect statements....
Grignerd reagent acts as a base...so the reaction condition is basic...so only it should react with aldehyde..without affecting the metal gr..
During clemmenson reduction the reaction condition would be acidic..so ketal would be converted to Leto as ketal is unstable under acidic condition..and aldehyde would be reduced to CH2...
