will an alkane get halogenated if no light,heat etc are not provided?

probably the answer is NO.
Experiments have shown that when the alkane and halogen reactants are not exposed to UV light or heat, the reaction does not occur, since the energy required to generate a free radical halogen is quite high and is available through UV light. However, once a reaction is started, the light or heat source can be removed and the reaction will continue.
