The figure below shows the boat and the arrow represents the direction of the wind.

If the boat moves in the direction of the wind, the flag mounted on the top should also point in the same direction, which is leftward (refer figure above). However, it can be seen from the figure above, that the flag mounted on the top of the boat points in the direction opposite to the direction of the wind.
