Let the contant velocities be $\vec{v_A}$ and $\vec{v_B}$ . Hence relative to A, the velocity of B is $\vec{v_B}-\vec{v_A}$ which is non-zero. Hence as seen from A, the distance between them woudl increase with constant rate of $\vec{v_B}-\vec{v_A}$ .

Hence the assertion is wrong.
