Therefore, the mass of the lamp is 7.28 kg .(b) The tension in the cord when the elevator accelerates upward with a magnitude of 2.4 m/s2 is 89 N, which is the same as it was in the first case because the upward acceleration of the elevator is equal to the deceleration when it is moving downward.
