The ball has two speeds v and u in two perpendicular directions

Resultant speed is sqrt( u*u. + v*v)

I think , the question is incomplete , 
Can you please specfy , the meaning of “magnotude of ball with respect to ground” ?
Which magnitude are you talking about ?
