The value of the coefficient of restitution varies from 0 to 1.
0 indicates a perfectly inelastic collision. A collision in which velocity of separation becomes zero.
1, on the other hand, indicates a perfectly elastic collision, in which there is no loss of energy. (velocity of approach=velocity of separation)
Any value between 0 to 1 indicates that some energy has been lost. Therefore, the velocity of separation<velocity of approach
