Polarization is partial separation of electric charges in an insulator subjected to an electric field.
Polarization is a phenomenon in which the positive and negative charges are displaced in an atom according to the direction of the electric field. This leads to a formation of dipole in the atom.
When electric field is applied on the dielectric, positive nucleus of the atom gets displaced in the direction of the electric field and the electrons are displaced in the direction opposite to the direction of the electric field.
