When a stone is suspended by a wire the extension is l. When the wire is rotated by holding the top end it traces a conical pendulum of semi vertical angle x. the extension of the wire is?

F = mgcosx + mw²Lsinx sinx

  =mgcosx + mw²Lsin²x

so extension in wire is

  =FL/AY   where A is the cross sectional area of wire and Y is the young modulus of wire
