Dear anesh,
You can say that we cannot have a relative motion of greater than the speed of light because the momentum increases to infinity as it approaches that speed.. By WHY is there a limit and why is this limit 300,000,000 meters a second? Why does energy increase to infinity as one approaches this speed? Why do distance contract with this speed as a limit. Why is the speed of light this special number of meters per second?
We can only say that that is the nature of our universe. Science is not about finding ultimate answers, it is about understanding the nature of our reality, and how things work within that reality.
We can accelerate small particles to speeds quite close to the speed of light, and we can measure the effects of the change of momentum, and even the way time passes more slowly at those speeds. Because it takes an enormous amount of energy to bring particles to that speed, we are only able to do it with subatomic particles, but we have been able to thoroughly verify this characteristic of our universe experimentally.
We are all IITians and here to help you in your IIT JEE preparation.
All the best.
