To under stand this question you will need to understand the concept of d-block contraction.
 
It is very tempting to assume that atomic radius of gallium is more than that of aluminium, since it has an extra shell of electrons. But, one factor often neglected is that the nuclear charge also increases as we go down the group. Generally this does’nt cause a problem for groups 1, 2, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, but the effect is significant for group 13 elements. this is because this is the group just after the whole range of transition metals, which contain electrons in the ‘d’ orbitals. As I should expect you to know is that electrons in the d orbitals provide poor shielding to the nuclear charge which attracts the electrons of the outermost shell. As a result the valence electrons of gallium atom are strongly attracted by its nucleus resulting to a “contraction” to its atomic size. This is why atomic radii of gallium and aluminium are approximately equal.
