Haemoglobin present in legume plantroots is called as leg haemoglobin.
It helps in binding with nitrogen or oxygen at the roots of legume plants.
it has got a similar structure like that of Blood haemoglobin in mammals.
Nitrogenase enzyme present in the roots help in reduction of Nitrogen to nitrates and ammonia.
Presence of oxygen prevents the function of that enzyme nitrogenase.
So Leg haemoglobin absorbs oxygen locks it,
keep the nitrogenase functioning continuously.
