It is given that a < 0 and 4b - 4ac > 0 0r a < 0 and b2 - ac > 0 Now, what you simply have to do is solve the given determinant using the properties which you have learnt and when you expand the equation you have to use a < 0 and b2 - ac > 0, use it and you will get the value of the determinant as 0.
