Dear Student

(a) Zero is the smallest natural number.
Solution: False
0 is not a natural number

(b) 400 is the predecessor of 399.
Solution: False
The predecessor of 399 is 398 Since, (399 – 1 = 398)

Thanks

Natural numbers means counting numbers for example, teacher says to you to count the students in the class. So, will you start counting the students from 0? no! you start counting from 1,2,3,4... so this means 0 is not in the natural number itself. 0 is in the whole number.
  • 1 is the smallest natural number
  • 0 is the smallest whole number

a) false

(Successor means after and predecessor means before) in the question its given predecessor of 399 is what? before 399 is 398 so the anwer is the predecessor of 399 is 398 but the answer given there in the question is wrong. If the question must be correct the the question should be like,
  • 400 is the successor of 399
because 400 comes after 399, thats why.
So,

b) False

(a) Zero is the smallest natural number.
(b) 400 is the predecessor of 399

Answer : a) It is false because Zero is not a natural number it is a whole number b) It is also because predecessor mens before number we can clearly see that 400 is not the before number of 399
