We have two glass tumblers. One is filled with water and the other with vegetable oil. Two lemons of same size are immersed in both tumblers respectively. The lemon of which tumbler will look larger when seen from outside? Also compare above result with the refractive indices of transparent liquids in which light can travel.

The lemon will look bigger in water as refractive index is a measure of tendency of bending light which will depend upon the density where density of water is less and hence lemon looks bigger in water
