That the electrons are present around  and separate from the nucleus is true - this has been confirmed by Rutherford's experiments. However the electrons don't truly revolve around the nucleus in atom. This vestige of the pre-quantum mechanics Bohr's model exists because the Bohr's model is still widely discussed in schools and sometimes it is not stressed enough that it is not entirely true. An atom is small beyond comprehension, and to predict what is really happening at such a small scale, we need to turn to quantum mechanics.
