Boric acid is also called as hydrogen borate, boracic acid, orthoboric acid.It is a weak, monobasic Lewis acid of boron and has the chemical formula H3BO3.It is sometimes written as B(OH)3).It is an weak Lewis acid accepting hydroxyl(OH-) ion from water. It does not dissociate to give hydronium (H3O+) ion rather than form metaborate ion and in turn give H3O+ ion.
B(OH)3 + H2O \rightleftha\rightleftharpoons [B(OH)4]- + H3O+
hence it is considered as weak acid.Boric acid is often used as an antiseptic, insecticide, neutron absorber, or precursor to other chemical compounds.
