Anion are larger than parent atom. Anions are formed by gaining of electrons.Therefore, the number of electrons increases but the nuclear charge remains the same.Therefore, the effective nuclear charge per electron decreases.Thus the size of Cl- is more than the chlorine atom.In fact the size of chloride ion is 167 pm and that of chlorine atom is 78pm
