distinguish between phenol and benzyl alcohol
phenol turns blue litmus to red being base whereas such test are not shown by benzyl alcohol
phenol gives violet ppt with neutral FeCL3 whereas benzyl alcohol do not give such type of ppt

butane 2ol and 2methylpropan2-ol
butane2 ol gives iodoform test whereas such test are not shown by 2Methyl propan2 ol
