The reaction taking place is
2 HgCl2 + SnCl2 = 2 HgCl + SnCl4
On further reaction, HgCl gets converted to Hg ., thus in this reaction Hg of HgCl2 is getting reduced and a white ppt (HgCl) turning to grey-black (Hg) is obtained.
