Hyperconjugation is a hypothesis. It was observed that tertiary carbocation was almost as stable as a carbocation stabilised by resonance. Therefore the concept of hyperconjugation was put forward. Whenever a carbocation is formed, its empty orbital comes in the same plane as 1 of the C-H orbitals, and thus it’s electrons are transferred into this empty orbital, to impart stability. here, mind u that this is only possible with the H of adjacent sp3carbon atom
