acetoacetic estecr is converted into its enol form and thus gives fecl3 test.
CH3(C=O)CH2COOC2H5=CH3C(OH)C=HCOOC2H5
It gives a violet dye with fecl3.
note fecl3 test is given by phenol and not aliphatic alcohol and enol.
