A large Kb value indicates the high level of dissociation of a strong base. A lower pKbvalue indicates a stronger base. pKa and pKb are related by the simple relation: pKa + pKb = 14

Aliphatic amines are stronger bases than ammonia due to +I effect of alkyl groups leading to high electron density on the nitrogen atom. Their pKb values lie in the range of 3 to 4.22. On the other hand, aromatic amines are weaker bases than ammonia due to the electron withdrawing nature of the aryl group.

pkb is inversly proportional to basic nature of amines. if pkb value increses the basic nature decreases and vice versa....... stability of amines is secondary >third degree>primary.....
