esters are carboxylic acid derivative shows many chemical properties like hydrosis[ acidic or alkaline],alcholysis,claisen condensation and ammonolysis etc.

Acid
CH3COOC2H5 + H2O --------------> CH3COOH + C2H5OH
heat
CH3COOC2H5 + NaOH ----------------> CH3COONa + C2H5OH



claisen condensation
C2H5ONa
CH3COOC2H5 + CH3COOC2H5 -------------------> CH3COCH2COOC2H5 +C2H5OH
