There in not any notable reaction between alkanes and bases as alkanes are inert species which in turn is due to effective overlapping between orbitals of Carbon and hydrogen and similar electronegativity between the two.

HELLO THERE!

Alkane + Strong base ---- NOT A MATCH!

Actually, we can react Terminal alkyne + Strong base. What happens is that, the terminal alkyne has an acidic Hydrogen, which is abstracted by the base and the cation present in the base gets substituted to the carbon. Consider an example. If we react ethyne and sodium hydroxide, the product hence formed is Sodium Acetylide.

As far as I know, alkanes cannot react with strong bases. Alkanes have sp3 character, and due to reduced character, its electronegativity is very low and hence it’s acidity is very low due to which it is unable to react with bases.

HOPE MY ANSWER IS SATISFACTORY...
THANKS!
