What r the various factors (except molecular wieght) through which we can predict their relative solubilities of Alcohols in water.

solubility also depends upon the strength of the hydrogen bonds and the vander waal forces between the hydrocarbon chains of the alcohols

We can use phenomenon like Hydrogen bonding, Sulphide bonding, and other relative things.

Bascially we need to see the interaction between the solute and the water. If the solute-water interaction is stronger than the solute-solute interaction, then the solute will be soluble in water.

the others factors can be :-

1. hydrogen bonding between water and hydroxy group

2. enthalpy of solvation

3. van der waals forces b/w hydrocarbon chain of alcohols
