At higher temperatures, elimination takes place, hence an alkene will be formed.

While at lower temperatures, substitution takes place, hence an ether will be formed.

Dear Amol dave,

This is a simple way of making gaseous alkenes like ethene. If ethanol vapour is passed over heated aluminium oxide powder, the ethanol is essentially cracked to give ethene and water vapour.

For getting an Ether from Ethanol,use two moles of Ethanol with the Oxidising agent Al2O3 at 413 K gives Ethoxyethane !

         2 CH3-CH2-OH  ----------> CH3-CH2-O-CH2-CH3 + H2O

Hope you understood !

All the Best & Good Luck !!!
