Dear student,

When source is placed at half the distance, the intensity of the light becomes 4 times and so does the number of photons hitting the metal per second, and so does the number of photoelectrons ejected. However since the energy of each photon still remains the same(h\nu, the kinetic energy of photoelectrons also remains the same in accordance with the photoelectric equation.
