In the sample problem 16-1, the stream of the water emerging from the faucet become narrower as it falls. This also, increases the speed of the stream. If surface tension of the water is taken into account, the stream would become a little narrower than expected. It is due to the fact the molecules in the middle of the stream interact with the molecules in the outer surface of the stream. Thus, the speed of the water will also increase as it falls down.
