     y2+x2=l2
or, 2y dy/dt+2x dx/dt = 0
or, x dx/dt = -y(-vy) = yvy     [Let dy/dt = -vy]
or, vx = vy(y/x)
 
Thus, since with time y decreases and x increases you will have the said result.
