Earth rotates about its polar axis. When ice of polar caps of earth melts, mass concentrated near the axis of rotation spreads out. Therefore, the moment of inertia I increases.

As no external torque acts,

L=I omega = I(2π/T) = constant

With increase of I,T will increase i.e length of the day will increase

If the ice on the polar caps melts, it will distribute the ice now at the poles all around the planet causing a change in the distribution of mass. The classic example of this would be an ice skater who opens their arms to come out of a spin. An earth where the ice caps had melted into the oceans would have its mass further from the axis of rotation , causing the rotation to slow. This means that the earth would then have longer days.
