To find a unit vector โ€œ nโ€ย  perpendicular to two vectors p and q we need cross product of those vectors.ย
Its formula is :
n = cross product of p and q vectors/ magnitude of their cross product
Or simply we can say
n =( p ร— q) / |pร—q|

let the perpendicular vector is a.
Then a is given byย
\vec{a} = \vec{p}X\vec{q}
so unit perpendicular vector
\hat{a} = \vec{a}/|\vec{a}| = \vec{p}X\vec{q}/|\vec{p}X\vec{q}|
Hope it clears.................................................................

firstly the cross product say p*q gives u the vector perpendicular to both p and q
but u are required to answer the unit vector and not the vector,so u will divide the cross product vector by its magnitude
i.e unit vector perpendicular to both p and q is=(p*q)/|p*q|
